Hello Again...

It has been a while since I’ve been to here… after such a long absence I really didn’t know how to get back here. Life got busy and my time in the sewing room became so scarce. Not having any sewing projects to share with you it just became harder and harder to visit this space. But lately things are settling down and I have been able find a few minutes here and there to sew; specially on Sundays… It feels like a creative renaissance.

I finished a few projects and I can’t wait to share them with you. I thought I’d start off small and ease my back into blogging again. This pincushion I made sometime ago using some scraps leftover from my Modern Maples Quilt. I’ve using those leftover scraps nonstop and I don’t seem to be able to use them up (it is like the gift that keeps on giving). I gave the pincushion to my MIL and she loved it. The pattern is from Anna Graham’s book Handmade Style, which by the way is an amazing book.

I’m so glad to be back here and so happy to participate on this wonderful and ever so welcoming and encouraging sewing online community.

Summer Tote Bag

Quick finishes are so satisfying... to be able to transform a piece of fabric into something useful in an hour or less it is just fantastic. A couple of weeks ago I finished this lovely tote bag and I been using it non stop since then. The fabric is a printed canvas I found at my local fabric store and I added essex linen accents on the front pockets, the handles ant the inside pocket and of course the label. I love the way it turned out and how practical it is. By the way, I have been playing around with that label for a while; I label my quilts with it as well. But I'm never been one hundred percent sure about it. Maybe one day I'll finally make up my mind about it.

Wishing you a wonderful week.

Modern Plus Quilt II

DSC_0630.JPG

Plus quilts are so fun to make and they come together very quickly. This is the second one that I make and I don't this would be my last one. Specially because I didn't get to keep any of them. The first one I made I gave it to my sister (you can see it here) for her birthday a while a ago. And this happy quilt I sent it to a dear friend. She likes fresh and happy colors so I thought this color combo would be particularly fitting for her personality. I really love the way it turned out and she tells me she was very happy with her new quilt, which traveled over 2,000 miles to get to her.

Now I think I should get busy and make another one of this happy quilts to keep for myself.

Wishing you a happy week.

WIP: Modern Maples

Last year around August I started this Modern Maples Quilt hoping I would have it finished by autumn... Well, that never happened. Then winter arrived and I just felt uninspired; so I packed it away. I thought maybe the inspiration to finish it will strike at some point. A few weeks ago it felt like it was time to finish this lovely quilt. I've made a lot of progress and I just have to hand sew the binding. I'm super excited to see it finished. I can already see myself enjoying it sitting on the porch on the crisp evenings and seeing the foliage fall from the trees.

Wishing you a lovely week!

WIP: Granny Square Quilt

I don't even remember when I started my Granny Square quilt. Maybe last year or even longer. The few blocks that I completed  and the fabric that I had selected for it have been sitting in their box for such a long time. Maybe longer than any other project. So last week I decided that my Granny Square quilt should be my next "forgotten" project to tackle. Today I finished sewing all the blocks... just a few left to trim and very soon there will be a quilt top. Yay!

I've been thinking about ways to quilt this little project and I just can't decide. What do you think? I'd love to hear your suggestions.

I hope you have a happy week!

Sew the Library

DSC_0337.JPG

Hello and welcome to another edition of Sew the Library. Right now on my table I have these pretty little scraps that were leftover from quilt I made a while ago. They are super colorful and I think would make a perfect  scrappy project. Sadly there hasn't been much time spent in my sewing room lately. One of my beloved dogs has been very sick for the past three weeks. So for now every time I pass by my sewing room I admire this little pile and hope things return back to normal soon.

How about you? Have you sewn a project lately inspired by a book or a magazine? Please share with us below, visit others and promote the link up.

Thank you for stopping by. I hope you have a lovely week.

Autumn Days And More Maples

Hello friends! I hope you had a wonderful weekend. My weekend was wonderful. After a terrible heat wave, the weather finally cooled down and it is starting to feel like autumn. The cool crisp air and the warm afternoon light are just lovely. Also, I had time to sew! So that was fantastic. I made a couple more blocks for my Modern Maples Quilt. The blocks come together very quickly and so fun to sew. I think very soon I'll have a quilt top... I can't wait.

Wishing you a lovely week.

Another Envelope Bag

Oh my goodness how time flies! This summer has been so busy and with very little sewing time. A few days ago I managed to sneak in a few moments in my sewing room and I made another envelope bag. This one was for my dear sister. She wanted something funky and fun, so this is what I came up with. I love how it turned out. The bright pink bias tape against the black gingham fabric is one of my favorite parts (I think I want to make a quilt using that color combo), and the diamond quilting is definitely something I'd try again. If you would like to make your own envelope bag you can download my free pattern here.

I hope you have an wonderful week!
