Economy Blocks Quilt

Finally finished my economy block quilt. Such a fun quilt to make. Initially my plan was to make it using solely economy blocks, but when I laid it out on my design wall it looked a bit too busy. The blocks are scrappy and I picked all fabrics at random from my stash when I was making the blocks. So, I felt it needed something to give the eye a rest in between each block. After playing around with layouts, I settled for an hourglass block in between each economy block. I picked Kona cotton in snow in a low volume print I had in my stash.

Also, I alternated the direction of the hourglass blocks in each row. I absolutely love how it turned out. The hourglass blocks create a secondary pattern and allow you appreciate each economy block and their scrappy uniqueness.

I made a pieced back using some leftover fabric from the hourglass blocks, I just love the surprise of a pieced back on a quilt. To quilt this quilt I went for organic wavy lines all over. It creates a wonderful texture.

Quilt measures 72”X72”
